Harford Lacrosse Camp's Place in History

In 1981 Harford Lacrosse Camp was founded on the premise that every young man between the ages of 6 and 17 that wanted to learn the skills of modern day lacrosse would be given the opportunity.  And now, after 28 years and over 4,000 campers, HLC is recognized as the premiere instructional camp in the world of lacrosse.  A girls camp was added in 1999 offering the same philosophy to young ladies from ages 6 to 17.  The key word at HLC is "teach".   It is an instructional camp with a 6 to 1 camper to coach ratio for players at all levels from beginners to high school All-Americans.  The staff is comprised of some of the finest college, high school and recreation coaches in the greater Maryland area.  Prior to playing any games, the campers receive 2 1/2 days of intense, small group or one on one instruction during 3, 2 hour, sessions a day.  Competition between equally drafted teams takes place the last 1 1/2 days of camp as the instruction continues under game conditions.

Even the setting is reminiscent of what the early settlers might have seen as they came upon a clearing in the forest filled with indians playing baggataway.

Harford Lacrosse Camp's three playing fields are also nestled in a clearing surrounded by 200 acres of pristine woodland 5 miles north of Bel Air, Maryland adjacent to Rocks State Park.   The campers live in rustic dormitories set among the trees a short walk up one of the paths that traverse the camp, and eat family style in an "all you can eat" dining hall.  Directions and a map to the camp  location are provided below.

Lest you think that HLC is totally roughing it, there is a swimming pool with certified lifeguard supervision, a concession stand and small store filled with lacrosse items for sale, a pavilion with a TV and movies every night, and other recreational facilities for the enjoyment of the campers during their time off the playing field.  There is a registered nurse on duty who treats injuries.  And a field trip to a local athletic club for instruction on plyometrics, strength training and conditioning.

Surf through our site and see for yourself why HLC was voted "Best Overnight Camp for the Dollar".  Pay particular attention to the Special Features and Camper's Comments.  They will give you real insight into what HLC is all about.

Also, read a parent's letter  from San Diego, CA. about our camp.
